TWAS Sanitizer – batch processing SDLXLIFF, SDLTM, TMX
Personal user IDs and MT markers visible in translation memories
THE METADATA RISK

Your Client Shouldn't See Your Windows Username or Machine Translation Footprint

Every time you work in Trados Studio, your Windows user ID gets embedded into SDLXLIFF files, SDLTM databases, and exported TMX memories. When you deliver packages, you inadvertently expose internal user names and machine translation origins.

This not only compromises privacy but also can reveal that you used automated translation, harming your professional image. Sanitizer instantly hunts down and replaces these identifiers across all three formats in a single batch operation, giving you a clean, corporate‑ready output.

Why Sanitizer is the Ultimate 3‑in‑1 Solution

The only plugin that gives you complete control over metadata in SDLXLIFF, SDLTM, and TMX files – all at once.

📂

3 Formats, One Workflow

Select a mix of SDLXLIFF, SDLTM, and TMX files. The plugin automatically detects each format and applies the appropriate sanitization logic.

Lightning Fast Batch Processing

Process gigabytes of TMX files with buffered streaming, and hundreds of thousands of SDLTM units with native SQLite transactions – all in milliseconds.

🛡️

Bulletproof Safe Backups

Automatic backup folders (Backup_SDLXLIFFs, Backup_TMX, Backup_SDLTM) preserve original files untouched. Your work is always recoverable.

📋

Dual‑Tab Mapping Matrix

Map any user ID to a new, anonymized name. Replace machine translation markers (like Google Translate) to simulate 100% human‑translated files.

🔒

Hardware‑Locked License

Your license is bound to your machine – no piracy, no sharing. A simple one‑time activation with your unique UUID.

🧹

Clean Corporate Identity

Deliver files that look like they were produced by a team, not an individual. Remove any trace of personal system usernames and MT footprints from all your translation assets.

See the Difference Across All Formats

Before and after metadata sanitization on all three file types

Before & After: Metadata Removed

Your client will see only what you want them to see – no personal usernames, no MT markers, across every file type.

Mapping matrix – define replacements for author IDs and origins

Intuitive Mapping Matrix

Easily define what each user ID should become, and even replace machine translation origins. Works seamlessly for all formats.

Quick Start Guide

Get Sanitizer up and running in less than 2 minutes.

Step 1: Licensing

Your plugin is secured and locked to your specific machine. Follow these steps to activate it:

  1. Open the Command Prompt (CMD) on your Windows computer.
  2. Type the following command exactly and press Enter:
    wmic csproduct get UUID
  3. Copy the long string of letters and numbers that appears.
  4. Email this UUID to arabiana2008@gmail.com to receive your license.
  5. Once you receive your license file, create a new folder on your computer at exactly C:\TWAS.
  6. Place your newly received license_sanitizer.dat file directly inside this folder.

Step 2: Configure Mappings

Tell Sanitizer which names to replace and what to replace them with.

  1. Open Trados Studio and navigate to the Home tab in the Editor view.
  2. Locate the TWAS Sanitizer group on the ribbon and click Sanitizer Settings.
  3. In the Author Mapping tab, add rows for each user ID you want to change (e.g., Sameh → Sarah).
  4. In the Origin Mapping tab, you can replace machine translation markers (like Google Translate) with an empty string or a neutral term.
  5. Click Save – your settings are ready.
Pro Tip: Use the Harvest Metadata button first to automatically scan your files (any mix of SDLXLIFF, SDLTM, TMX) and populate the mapping list with all detected user IDs. Then you only need to specify the new names.

Step 3: How to Sanitize Your Files (All Formats)

Once configured, cleaning your files is just a few clicks – regardless of file type.

  1. In the Trados Editor, click Sanitizer → Scan Files to select your files (mix of SDLXLIFF, TMX, and/or SDLTM).
  2. The plugin will Harvest Metadata – it automatically detects all author IDs, origins, and origin systems in the selected files, across all three formats.
  3. Review the harvested list and confirm your mapping in the settings (or use the auto‑populated list).
  4. Click Process Files – Sanitizer will create backups and rewrite all metadata according to your mappings.
  5. Your files are now clean and ready for delivery – no matter which format they were.

Step 4: Customize Your Ribbon (Optional)

By default, Sanitizer places its buttons on the Home tab. For maximum convenience, you can create your own dedicated Ribbon tab.

  1. In Trados Studio, go to the View tab and click Ribbon Customization (or right‑click the empty gray space of the ribbon and select Customize Ribbon...).
  2. In the window, on the right, click New Tab or select an existing tab and click New Group.
  3. Rename your new tab/group to something like "Sanitizer" or "Privacy Tools".
  4. In the left‑hand column, change "Choose commands from" to All Commands.
  5. Find the Sanitizer Settings, Harvest Metadata, and Process Files actions.
  6. Select them and click the Add >> button to move them to your custom group.
  7. Click OK to save. Your Sanitizer buttons are now perfectly positioned.

What Translators Are Saying

"I used to manually edit TMX files to remove my username. Sanitizer does it in seconds, and the backup feature gives me total peace of mind. The fact that it also handles SDLTM and SDLXLIFF is a huge bonus."

"The dual‑tab mapping matrix is brilliant – I can replace my personal Windows username with a generic 'Editor' and also strip Google Translate origins. It works flawlessly on SDLTM databases which were always a pain to clean."
